A right proper case of the season's warm fuzzies

I have read every one of R.E. Bradshaw's books and have loved every one of them, including her last Christmas short story, Rainey's Christmas Miracle. i had every expectation of this short Christmas story to be as good as Rainey's Christmas Miracle. It did not disappoint. In fact, the dialogue with all three of the Bell toddlers was beyond enchanting and adorable. I recommend it for a right proper case of the season's warm fuzzies! (I know one shouldn't play favorites with children, but I confess, Rainey's daughter Weather's observations, proclamations and decrees put her at the top of my list.)

ANOTHER BELL CHRISTMAS

Absolutely love this short story, or any novel by Ms. Bradshaw. This one is centered around the triplets and Christmas and a dog named Carol. With those three elements who could not love it. Of course being a Rainey Bell story there must be a little drama but you will have to read this adorable tale to discover what happens. Also included is a play on Santa's names, see if you know.

An unexpected Christmas gift.

What a great Christmas gift. It was as usual a great one to read. I loved the reconnetion with the Bell family. There was, of course, a little drama, but hey, it was around Christmas time, so do not worry. The dialogue in the van was outstanding. The triplets, they were so cute but Weather, she is my special one. It was short but heartwarming.

About the Author

Michael S. Casey is Professor of the Humanities at Graceland University in Iowa. He holds a doctorate in Philosophy and writes extensively on military history. He is co-author of Teaching the Korean War: An Instructor's Handbook. As a member of the Kuwait-United States Defense Review Group, he helped to plan the rebuilding of Kuwait's post-war national defense, during which time he lived in Kuwait and worked with the top echelons of Kuwait's defense establishment.

Good Overview

This is a comprehensive documented history of Kuwait. Its really great if you want to know dates of the first settlers, how people emigrated form Saudi Arabia and the early conflicts of the tribes all the way to the discovery of petrol, how unjust Iraq's claim was over our land, pre-and post invasion days. The development of industry, and the negative effects of excessive subsidizing in the world's foremost welfare state. Yes, that what we are, a WELFARE state. I was disappointed however that the book didnt go into the detail i wanted (ya3ni it generally didnt name names and give the full story of immigration to our country) but it was very informative. oh, and it tells exactly what happened during the invasion, FOCUS ON APRIL GLASPI (US ambassador to Iraq before the invasion) PART ON JULY 25 1990 AND HER COMMENT TO SADDAM HUSSEIN AND YOU WILL SEE SHE SAID: " the US has NO OPINION on the Arab-Arab conflicts like your border disagreement with Kuwait". no opinion??? you swear?? and they invaded us less than a week later! draw your own conclusions! AAAND... unlike our social studies books books, it does give one instance of who killed who to get power. Get it if you are Kuwaiti, you should know this stuff!
But dont forget, not all of his facts are set in stone. There was a lot that was missing from this book and i got a definite feeling that Casey was avoiding "controversial topics".

Limited material and poor representation at Bookbyte!!!

I am really enjoying this book, however, I ran into a major problem with the Bookbyte representative. In the Preface it speaks of The Instructor's Media CD etc. that can be purchased. Well after being shuffled from one person to another I finally get one who ask's "What institution are you a professor at?" I explained, that I'm a retired FDNY Paramedic and would like the resources as advertised for my own edification. "Sorry, not a professor at an institution, you can not buy it." What sort of crap is that? Thus, I'm impressed with the book, but by no means Bookbyte!

Not where to start...

If you want to read Che’s Guerrilla Warfare, this is the edition, both because it contains changes he made after the experience of the Congo, and because it has a foreword by Harry Villegas (Pombo), who was part of Che’s guerrilla in the Cuban Revolutionary War, in the Congo, and in Bolivia. Pombo has published a book on how the survivors got out of Bolivia—Pombo: A Man of Che’s Guerrilla--as well as several interview books—most recently Cuba and Angola the War for Freedom.

But if you want to learn about Che Guevara, I would suggest this is not the best place to start. First, one should read how the Cuban revolutionaries came to power, both from Che’s Episodes of the Cuban Revolutionary War, 1956-58, and from Armando Hart’s Aldabonazo: Inside the Cuban Revolutionary Underground.

Too many are attracted to Guerrilla Warfare not because they want to read a serious Marxist book on the topic, but out of romantic notions, or worse, because they think it tells you how to make a revolution anywhere. It must be remembered that most attempts at guerrilla warfare ended in defeat. Che in Bolivia had a real chance, if everything had gone right (see The Bolivian Diary of Ernesto Che Guevara and Fertile Ground: Che Guevara in Bolivia), but everything went wrong. Guerilla warfare played a role in the victory of the Sandinistas, but ultimately an urban insurrection played the decisive role.

And the idea of guerilla warfare in the US and Europe would be absurd, if not for the fact that there were militants who attempted it, and wound up dead, in prison, or in exile. It’s not a tactic for the developed (imperialist) countries, or for use in conditions of bourgeois democracy, where legal work is possible. At no time in the 1960s and 1970s was socialist revolution possible in the US. It was possible to build a revolutionary party. Today, the economic and social conditions for a socialist revolution exist here and throughout much of the world (See The Clintons' Anti-Working-Class Record and Is Socialist Revolution in the Us Possible?: A Necessary Debate Among Working People), but the working class is far too confused and demoralized. Again, it is still possible to continue building a revolutionary party.

Revolutions in the imperialist countries and the more advanced of the underdeveloped countries are far more likely to resemble the Russian Revolution (See History of the Russian Revolution). The socialist movement in Russia broke with the traditions of the terrorist-populist movement (terrorist used in a scientific way, not as a pejorative), and instead went to the working class. The fact that almost no legal work was possible under czarism didn’t prevent this. Bolshevism started with a national newspaper, not with guns.

So to me, the most important works of Che’s to read today, in addition to those already mentioned, are his political and economic writings: To Speak the Truth: Why Washington's 'Cold War' Against Cuba Doesn't End, Che Guevara Speaks: Selected Speeches and Writings, Che Guevara Talks to Young People, and Che Guevara: Economics and Politics in the Transition to Socialism.

The material is great, but this edition is utter crap

The material in the book is great, I have it on my nook but I wanted to have a physical copy, DO NOT BUY THIS EDITION! This looks like it was printed from someone's computer, the text is all jumbled together and it strains your eye to read. Usually books are double spaced with clear paragraphs, this text is just all smashed together with a rare paragraph break. There are images that look digital jpegs from 1990, they are images i have seen crisp and sharp online before but the ones in this book are distorted and pixilated, some are stretched so bad Che looks overweight.

In short, do not buy this it looks like it was printed in someone's basement and a total ripoff; I could have printed this off my PC and it would be higher quality..

A good read for understanding movements.

People often wear Che t-shirts simply because they see him as a symbol of revolution/change. In reality, Che was also the brains behind much of Cuba's operations, and a thinking man who had gone through university-level education and become a doctor.

A good read for understanding fundamentals of unorthodox small-unit tactics, as well as good insight to politics anywhere in the world, as Che details the requirements for revolution and by what means, where.

A great example is a quote directly from Che, where he explained "In a democratic society with representation, diplomatic means are the only way to make a cause heard. Violent revolution will always fail in such a society, even if voting results of an election are fraudulent, since a group using warfare would be immensely unpopular with the people. Diplomatic means must be exhausted in such circumstances before anything drastic is attempted."

Basically outlining that any movement like that in Cuba would be impossible in places like the US, UK, et cetera.

A good read, whether or not you agree with any of his views, since understanding how historical leaders think can give great insight.This book doesn't glorify things, exaggerate or encourage as much as it just gives a brutally honest account of what guerrilla warfare really means.

A very complete overview

A little background about me first: I'm a senior developer on a large database-centric project. I bought this book to give my intern (and coworkers needing a refresher) an introduction to databases. Before I loaned it to him I read it over a few nights. It turned out to be a good refresher for me as well! Shortly before I got this book I was discussing database normalization with a coworker, and neither of us could remember which normal form was which (we knew to implement them, just not which went with which number). This book explained normalization very clearly - probably the most concise definition I've seen.

The book is heavy with examples and ties everything into a "real world" example: how to create a database to organize the data in the protagonists' kingdom. The format of each chapter is the same: comic to advance the story and give context to the database concepts being introduced, followed by explanatory text and review questions. The book covers everything from "what is a database" to database security and data replication.

Before I could give the book to my intern to read our database administrator took it and read it. He had very high praise for this book - he felt it was an engaging, accurate introduction to database concepts. The book was equally helpful to my intern - the SQL examples really helped him out.

If you're going to be studying databases or need to become familiar with how they operate you won't go wrong with this book. You'll even learn basic SQL syntax...this book is a great introduction and good start to working with databases.

Not a textbook, but a very good start.

Fun, simple introduction to databases. No one should think that they understand DBs after reading this, but if you were planning on studying databases (either in a class or real world setting), it would provide a good groundwork on which to build. Plus, it's fun enough that you probably won't get bored reading about 3rd normal form.

I'll edit this review if I can convince my 10 year old daughter to read it, with her thoughts.

overall nice; a few nitpicks

Overall I found this book quite nice and helpful. I have 13 years of experience as a professional programmer but I've never done any database programming. The reason I'm writing this review is to raise one question/nitpick about the example application that it uses pretty much throughout. The example portrays it as feature that once a database is used, prices used in orders automatically update when prices change. It seems to me this is a bug, not a feature. In designing a real system, the prices recorded in an order should remain fixed at the time of order, shouldn't they? Maybe I'm looking for this example to be too realistic. On the other hand, this seems to me such an obvious concern that it makes the example a bit confusing.

My other nitpick is one I saw raised elsewhere, which is that the SQL syntax used for joins is a bit weird. In particular the JOIN keyword is not used; instead the join conditions are placed in the WHERE clause. The place where I saw this nitpick raised suggested it was an older syntax. In general joins are not really delved into, but I can't really fault the book for that; it is not trying to be an in-depth book.

Great book to help pass the test!!!

I used this book and the accompanying practice exams as my sole study references. I didn't have time to play with all the tools referenced, but I took 2 hours on the test today and passed with a 75%. Matt Walker's book doesn't go enough into policy and there were more policy questions than I anticipated, so make sure you brush up on policy. Thank you Matt Walker!!!

I still recommend this book for anyone wanting to pursue the CEH ...

This book was sufficient in preparing for (and passing) the CEH exam. There were some things I ran into in the exam that I don't think were covered in this book (such as particular protocols/ports), but some of them I already knew from previous studies/experience so it wasn't a big deal.

As others have probably pointed out, there are some errors in this book. Some are obvious, but some aren't. There are also some inconsistencies that I found (for example, responses to the various scans). I hope these are fixed in the next version/edition of this book, but they're not deal breakers, IMO. I still recommend this book for anyone wanting to pursue the CEH cert.

Beware the software quiz

The books were pretty good but the software had a lot of incorrectly labeled answers. In other words, the quiz would grade your answers as wrong, but when you read the assistance tips, you actually answered correctly. Or vice-versa. I had to unlearn a few things and learn them again because of this. I'm in contact with the publisher about the issue.
