About the Author
Larry Ronaldson has been teaching SAT for thirty-nine years in high schools, small groups and one-on-one. Fifty- four of his students have received perfect scores on the reading part and seventy-four on the grammar/writing part in the past fifteen years. He has taught in private and public schools for forty-six years. Mr. Ronaldson has a Master's degree in English Literature from City University of New York and now lives in Seattle.
Tom Speedling a New York native, received his Bachelor of Arts from St. Bonaventure University. After returning from Vietnam, he received a Master's of Science Education from Richmond College. Mr. Speedling taught in the New York city and state school systems for more than forty years. He has also tutored students for the SAT for twenty years and written numerous newspaper articles.

Too many errors to make it easy for students to use without an expert.

The errors in the book are annoying, and really confuse the student. AND, if you look at the reading in this book and the New SAT Prep Book for Reading, Writing and Math Mastery, you would think that the reading would be the same. Although the passages are the same, the questions are missing words such as "NOT" in a question in the book being reviewed, but appearing in the book with the Math section.
I haven't even begun to look at the writing and math sections as I gave up proofreading as a career.
Will not be using this book, which looks as though it was just knocked out to take advantage of the new SAT. Too bad, because historically, I have used Steve's math books with my students.

An effective and targeted guide for improved verbal testing skills

This book clearly and concisely explains the skills students need to master the content of the SAT Reading and Writing tests. It effectively combines a review of the necessary foundations of knowledge with an explanation of exactly how questions will appear on the test and how to approach each type. It also does a far better job than most similar books of explaining the answers to the many practice questions. The book does assume a certain fluency with fundamental principles, so it may not be the best for students who are starting scoring far below average. For students beginning with at least average scores, though, this book is an excellent resource for mastering the skills to dramatically improve outcomes.

I like the conversational style of these explanations

This book solves my biggest problem with workbooks. They give you lots of problems, but do not guide you enough to make you understand why you missed the question and what you can do to prevent that next time. I like the conversational style of these explanations. It feels like I am sitting with a top notch tutor who understands how I think and why I make errors and can help me right away. Bring on the test. I will be ready.
